  • 🍓 MY FAVOURITE WEBSITE EVER

    ARCHIVE.ORG

The Internet Archive is a free online library where you can find not just full books, albums and movies, but also navigate past versions of websites throught their Wayback Machine, utilize old computer programs and play videogames. Its catalogue is so vast it can be a bit overwhelming knowing where to start, so here are some of my favourite finds from there:

⭐️ GifCities: If you're into pixel art and early web graphics, this is for you! This is their dedicated GIF section, where you can find all the gifs from the websites they've archived for the Wayback Machine. Just search whatever you want in the search bar, and watch tons of GIFs pop up...

⭐️ Kid Pix Studio (1995): If you wanna check out an old computer program start with this! Kid Pix was the cool MSPaint... I spent hours on this as a kid, drawing and making collages with all its pixely elements, and I don't know if it's just the nostalgia, but I still found it entertaining now...

    ⭐️
LSD Dream Emulator (1998): This Playstation game was only released in Japan, probably because it isn't a typical game but more like a trippy interactive art piece by its creator, Osamu Sato... It's a contemplative virtual experience in which you're just exploring this massive world with crazy graphics and music and some creepy vibes... Just make sure you have a good internet connection before you play, because it takes a while to load everything! But once you're in, it's totally like playing the real thing. Your progress will be saved too, if you want to keep playing another day!

⭐️ Neo Tokyo (1987): Katsuhiro Otomo's first film, in pretty good quality and subbed in english. Here you can see ideas he would further develop in Akira. Save it for one of those days when you feel like watching an animated sci-fi movie.

⭐️ You can also find high resolution scans of full tomes of magazines like the iconic street fashion FRUiTS (Japan) and legendary comics ones like GARO (Japan) and Heavy Metal (USA / France). There's also DIY zines, like The Insiders Zine (made in prison about prison)

There's seriously so much to look at in there! Whenever you're feeling like your brain is rotting from social media, go to archive.org and search for your favourite artist, author or any topic that interests you and start digging!

  • 🦀 MORE COOL WEBSITES

👁‍🗨 Another online archive I like to get lost in is UbuWeb, which is more specific about art only, but has a lot of interesting material like movies, videos and books on many different kinds of artists, including painters, cartoonists and poets.

🎵 If you're looking for new music, NTS is a free online radio station with no ads and no bullshit and a massive variety of shows featuring all kinds of music... Way better DJs there than the algorithm!

  • 🔥 MAKE YOUR OWN WEBSITE

I strongly recommend that you to make your own website, start a blog... carve a little space for yourself online outside of social media! This is important because then your presence is not solely dependent on their platforms and it also gives you freedom to express yourself as you wish, instead of having to conform to a premade format. And, yeah, blogs and personal websites are still a thing! Here's some free places to start a cool website:

    ⭐️ Bear Blog

    ⭐️ Hotglue

    ⭐️ Neocities

    ⭐️ Straw.Page

If you're looking for something more "serious" check out: Format, Square, Cargo. If you don't care for aesthetics and are just looking for something easy, Substack is a free blog / newsletter. If you want to start a webshop Big Cartel is pretty customizable and also is free if you have few items! Some I like are the shops of Tom Jones and Heather Benjamin. I personally use Shopify but wouldn't recommend it if you're just starting since it costs and is more complicated to use...

💛 For inspiration on personal websites and blogs, visit Ferro's Ita.toys and her Cutie Club webring, Christy Frisby, Milkbbi, Laikaworld and Anne Hero. Jacob's castle at Fujichia is super cool too, and also a true OG that's been online since 1999! Another one I enjoy that is more like an online magazine than a blog is the Oubliette. For art portfolio websites, check out Animal Sleep Stories, Misaki Kawai, Prismatic Cavern, Ranchito, and take a look at my friends' Lala Albert and Patrick Kyle... and also mine... inechi.com... Thank you and have fun creating! (ノ≧∇≦)ノ ✧。・*・
